LASER HARDENING

 



In this process a high power laser source is used to achieve surface hardening in steel parts.

The zone irradiated by the laser is heated in a controlled way to the austenizing temperature (≈1000ºC), the part is then self-tempered (thanks to conductive cooling through the piece itself), achieving the modification of the internal structure of the steel, thus obtaining a high hardness on the treated surface.

By applying a localized laser beam it is possible to harden the desired area without thermally affecting the rest of the part, thus achieving a rapid process with minimal distortion.
